Can’t even run eclipse smoothly.
I don’t really like Linux as a dekstop OS, I’ve tried it, and ruined a few installations by installing gfx drivers. Having said that: Vista is bad, but good enough. Win7 is better, but not worth the reinstall. Why would I throw >$100 at a new license when I’m not running into any significant problems.
my main computer is: (2 years 4 months old approximately)
Windows 7
12GB ram
NVIDIA Geforce GTS 250 (GB)
intel 2.66GHz quad core
1tb hdd
My mac is: (4 months old)
27" monitor
3.4ghz i7 quad core (im not sure if its right, a app I downloaded said its 8 cores)
I cant get onto the apple store so cant find the exact graphics card, but its a AMD HD6970 (2gb)? (taking a guess at the numbers, cant remember).
8GB ram
and if anyone knows about mac, my mac you can tell is basically way better then my windows, but minecraft, the only really game I have installed on it, wont go past 60fps, is there a cap on macs? my friends macbook gets to 100fps+ and his is much older then mine (my mac is about 4 months old).
Yeah my dev rig is also my (± 1.5 year old) gaming rig, so its would be way overpowered to do proper game development on - if I didn’t only do retro remake stuff and don’t need much under any circumstance
The only thing I fight with is the one thing you wouldn’t really consider - the keyboard. I try to adjust it to my programming needs which is not as simple as it sounds. I need a keyboard that has keys that give a noticable response, be spaced properly so you don’t mash on two keys at once by accident and ALSO needs to be silent enough that I don’t bother my girlfriend with hundreds of clickety clicks; yet at the same time they must not be too resistant because that would tire the hands too quickly.
I’ve gone through a few options now and so far neither Logitech nor Microsoft has been able to give me what I need… the best keyboard is the one I have at work - effing Dell. Perfection for programming that one.
Not really, MC just doesn’t go so high on many systems, regardless of their architecture. Although I must say that since the latest versions with the new world structure, the game is very smooth at least for me (once the chunks are loaded of course).
You got a 5GHz processor? Okey… thats fine
How much FPS do you get in Minecraft? It’s kind of super cpu heavy. My record: 190 fps, my friends record (with a much better pc ): 880 fps.
Can you beat that? (without OptiFine btw…)
I’m having a hard time finding the perfect keyboard too. You’ll be amazed by the amount of dirt-stupid designs.
I want the Enter key to be 2 rows high
I want the Backspace key to be 2 keys wide
I want an empty row between ArrowUp and End
I don’t want a Shutdown key next to Escape
I want both shift keys to be 3 keys wide
I want the function keys to have the same shape as normal keys
Indeed, keyboard layout is the first filter I didn’t even mention; but I’m willing to make some sacrifices there just to have a keyboard with good response. I’m now stuck with a stupid Microsoft keyboard (a mistake I’m not making again). The design is so retarded I keep opening up windows live mail in stead of mashing escape. When I do mash escape I don’t really notice it because the key, like all the function and shortcut keys next to / above it, for some idiotic reason is a lot flatter and doesn’t “click” like the regular keys
so yeah I’d add to that list: a keyboard without idiotic shortcut keys.
I don’t like Minecraft much, and I don’t have Crysis
I mostly play Battlefield 3, Batman: Arkham City, and Portal 2 ;D
I’m away from my computer for a month right now so I can’t test, but I’m pretty sure 880 FPS is not possible. If I recall correctly, highest I could get was 400-500 FPS
Well, there’s my Toshiba laptop simulating the low-end computers in testing (it is NOT as good as the specs would have you think):
15.6" 1366 x 768 Display
Intel I3-380M 2.53 GHz Dual-Core
4GB DDR3 1066MHz
NVIDIA GeForce GT 525M
Windows 7 64-bit
Home rig…also simulating low-end computers in testing (though it is running rather well!):
19" bollocks monitor
Intel Core2Duo 2.66GHz
3GB DDR3 1066MHz
Geforce 9600GT 1GB
Windows XP 32-bit (CBA changing, and it’s nice to have another platform to test on)
Dreamcast chuckles you youngsters, you
I’m from the time of the Sega MasterSystem II and Sega MegaDrive II. “Alex the Kidd” and Sonic 1, 2, and 3 are the ones I remember fondest, although I think “Super Hang-on” and “Super Street Fighter II Turbo SE” also got their fair share of button-mashing. Interesting fact: I never bought new controllers for them. They were like Nokia 3310s, those things ^^
Not like the N64 or the first PS controllers.
