Virtual Ocean Races II

My dad and all his friends are totally into sailing. (So am I but I enjoy the beer drinking aspect of it more than the thrashing around with ropes and sails ;))
I’ll point them at it and try to get some feedback.

Cas

Thanks that’s great  especially if feedbacks come from people who sail.

The only boat we implements yet (should be four others ASAP : GClass / Imoca / more… ) is a Figaro 2 (mono-hull), we was helped in its modelisation by a professional skipper who race on the same boat : matching same speed / rool / reaction with an approximative physic engine is damly hard : boat physic probably represent one of the biggest part of the project and is still far to be perfect (I have discovered sailing and sail for the first time one year ago when I started to work on this project, I ve become nearly addict but cannot really do that often)

About the english version, plz dont be afraid, I am really fighting everydays with my co-worker to make them take more attention on the english version but there is still a lot of broken stuff, we patch a cupple of bugs each day

Beta race at 19H00 UTC :

Start : 13 october 2010 19h00 UTC
Location : Grand Anse Le Marigot (Guadeloup)
Estimated time : 1H00
Winds : 5/10 knots

PLAY NOW

I could not get to the game, as some parts of the website only exist in French (even when set to English). :frowning:

:’( yea sorry I noticed that… it is boring…

to get in :
1 -> register an account (top menu bar)
2 -> open menu “Play now => list of race”
3 -> seelct the race “Grand Anse - Le Marigot round 2”
4 -> on the right click on “Compete in”

once in the game :
you have to go from start line to end line (passing the buoy in the sens shown), you must not pass the start line before the departure time 19h00 UTC

you should eard three canon shots :
first shot is done 10minutes before race start (at 18h50 utc) => all boat are (re)placed on the start line
second shot 1 minute before race start
and finally the third shot indicate that you can pass the start line

Thank you DzzD for the informative answer. Will try that once I get home :stuck_out_tongue: Maybe add a version we can play in for fun, to learn the ways of sailing?

Not that it is a huge thing but you got some advertisement from pokemonworldonline.net. There servers broke down, and they encouraged their community to play Virtual Ocean Races as they wait for the server maintenance to be done.

thanks polish and debug is what get the most time, you’re right for training : there are some races (records) that are opened all the time, but here you have to comptete against the clock not a lot of other player, but can be used to learn

this is very nice, too bad that the english version is still so poor :frowning: and sry, who should I thanks ?

[quote]and sry, who should I thanks ?
