TheAgentD´s sob thread

I’ve had 2 servers breaking down on me, in a timespan of a couple of hours, they were using eachother for backups. Since then, I always have 3 copies of data. Two is for n00bs.

Murphy’s law, baby.

Sigh… Yeah, I´ve learnt that lesson…

Will look into recovery software tomorrow… Thanks for the tips/support, guys!

The same law predicts all 3 of your servers breaking down simultaneously… then what? :L
Well, it’s still better and cheaper than the Cloud. All those files lost inside megaupload…

きみは日本にいるね? したがって外に行くとあたらしくてすごいマンガをかう。そしてよんでくれ! いいですね?

Let’s assume that the odds that your server breaks down on day X is 1/1’000

Two servers breaking down on day X, results in a chance of 1/1’000’000
Three servers breaking down on day X, results in a chance of 1/1’000’000’000

I’m comfortable with the odds of three servers breaking down on the same day.

It’s a lot more risky to cross a busy road, and I still do it.

what kind of backup software do you guys use ?

Dropbox, Windows Live Sync/Mesh, and a script that robocopies to a backup HDD.

I can buy them and mail them to you, but you’ll have to read them yourself. xd Just PM me about that. I’m only in Japan until July though…

ASUS says they can return my computer without wiping the hard drive! Yaaaay!

Maybe it breaks on the way…

That’s the spirit of trolling!

Maybe it´s even broken? Wait, who´s side am I on?!

Considering Asus big name, I think it won’t.
won’t enough to troll again
Whoa whoa whoa let’s be friendly and positive here…but really Asus sucks and will break your laptop on its way back TEEEEHEEE ;D

I hope the fact that it took them over 4 weeks to repair my computer is enough trolling for them. -_-´
I do however need a new backup hard drive (or fifty-eleven, considering that Murphy guy). Any tips? Needs to be at least 1 TB and I have no need at all for more than 2 TB. Is it a good idea to buy a case for internal hard drives instead?

HD’s are so cheap these days, buy AT LEAST 50TB’s worth.

o_O
The Thailand floodings, anyone? -_-

Yeah, I would choose Western Digital, but their drives are still expensive
like 150 $ for 1 TB

But… In all honesty, the stuff that you really need to backup isnt that big
if you only backup things that you made yourself, at least for me, it should fit in 5-20GB

It´s not 100% for backup. I also offload unimportant stuff that doesn´t fit on my laptop´s harddrive too, which is why I want a larger one. My Java stuff is only a few MBs, might be a GB or so with some 3D models and other bigger game related files…

My broken hard drive is a WD one… Not too keen on getting a new identical one… >_>

haha yeah
I mean its often like this… you just never know with technology

I used a SSD in my desktop PC. After 18 months it just stopped working, just like that
and it was Corsair and all

you just never know
luckily amazon agreed to pay me back full price, which is awesome after 18 months of use

18 months? Did you find out what was wrong with it? What were you doing with it? 18 months ago SSD’s were quite small, how many GB was it? Either way those things should have 10+ years at least and be more secure than conventional HD’s, even though they have that “limit”.
