The JGO Bar!!: SixtyGig - Open World Retro RPG.

Starting work on the GUI. I also did a ton of code rewriting for the new save/load system. The menus are only function now, the design is not even remotely close to the final product. I’m just getting the framework in.

  • New/Load Game Screen (Fully Functional)
  • Game now autosaves! (yaay!)
  • Character Stats Screen (Screen itself functional, but there’s no way to gain stats yet)
  • Reputation Screen (same as character screen, works but has no way to edit the inputted data yet)
  • Inventory Screen (Partially functional, can move around and select slots)
  • Settings (Fully functional)

Random shots of the rough/functional GUI screens.

This game is amazing it reminds me to game i used to play it https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/graalonline-era/id406674031?mt=8

Thanks!

I have also finally started in on the polish for the GUI, here’s the first one to be (mostly) completed!

For today’s update, I bring you the Inventory page! It’s mostly drawn, aside from some tweaks that may be done down the road.

This game looks absolutely beautiful.

Keep up the good work!

After 2 solid days of drawing, the first completed version of the Main Menu and Official Game Logo have been completed!

Enjoy.

In-game, the blue rain in the background falls behind the logo, Matrix style!

Wow, looks really good!
You could use a gif to show the rain.

Yeah, I might go ahead and do that once I get my video capture software reinstalled. My Twitch streamer supports recording, but the quality is god-awful for pixel art. So I’ll probably install FRAPs and either make a Gif or just do an entire tech demo on YouTube.

DAYUMMMM!!! Your a newbie to this forum but for sure not to Java game programming. It looks beautiful. Kinda like a Project Zomboid without the zombies. +1 if I could (1 hour time limit :’( )

Screen-cast-o-matic is free and does Gif recording straight from the desktop.

Also, haven’t commented yet, but this looks great!

Hah, pretty nifty little java program there. Its Gif quality is a bit jumpy, I think it’s rigged to skip every other frame, but it got the job done! The rain is much more fluid in the game, but you get the idea.

Thanks for the complements btw

<IMAGE REMOVED, SEE NEW POST BELOW FOR UPDATED VERSION!>

This game is beautiful, and I feel like it deserves a lot more attention!

Just wanted to get that out there. ;D

Ah, too bad about Screencast. There’s also this: http://blog.bahraniapps.com/?page_id=21, although I haven’t tried it.

I might give that one a shot later, the examples in the link look promising.

…that or just get off my butt, install FRAPs and do a proper YouTube video.

You do realise you can record videos to a file output with OBS (Open Broadcaster Software), right?

Just go into the Settings : Broadcast Settings. Then change the mode to File Output Only. Works like a charm.

  • Jev

Oh yeah, I know. But the output quality is god-awful for pixel art, since the compression OBS uses by default seems to obliterates the nice crisp lines. :frowning: But, I’ll be honest, I didn’t play with it all that much since my intention was to just install FRAPs eventually.

The gif I posted a hour~ ago looks much better than anything I was outputting with OBS.

If you’re on Windows you can get Microsoft Expression Encoder which is high quality and no lag screen recording. Also free.

Finally got fraps back up and running, so I made a proper GIF! Enjoy

Obviously in-game the rain doesn’t “loop” like that, the rain is a bunch of programmed images, when they hit the bottom they go back up to the top of the screen at a random X coordinate, so there’s absolutely no way to make a smooth looping gif since the rain is truely random. But hey! You get the idea.

…and finally, the first-ever Engine Demo video!! yaay!

As of this post, this is the latest version of the game. Mostly I’m working on core aspects, thus why the content is lacking. But you can see the potential.

Again, very nice artstyle, looks very good!
But as mentioned before, do really try to equalize the perspective, it destroys the whole look a bit.
