The Alien Flux Development Diary (aka XAP)

so is this display mode selection bug the reason i can’t get things up and running with the geforce2 mx?

Hey you’re right there are issues with win 98  or my old drivers.

“You need an OpenGL compatible card to run AlienFlux Alpha Test”

This application requires a greater alpha depth
javaj.lang.NullPointerException

Rather than make you all sit through a massive download again I’m going to get the next version up tonight in .jar format, split up into bits, so I can patch one or t’other independently. I’ve got the new LWJGL code so it remains to be seen if that’s fixed the problem.

Expect a new version about 6 hours from now.

Oh I dont mind. It took less than 2 minutes on my cable modem ;D

Couple of things:

  1. Still no split into jar files? Or is there a new URL you haven’t yet posted, to get the separate JAR files?

  2. Does this work on linux? (I have a vague memory of dismissing LWGPL out of hand because it said something along hte lines of “this only works on windows and will do so for some time to come”). Windows bugs for dell laptops mean I have to use linux most of the time (ALL Microsoft apps hang if you plug ANY USB network card into a dell laptop. No other apps have this problem. They all un-hang as soon as you unplug it. Every major USB manufacturer’s card has the same problem…sigh)

  3. please could everyone remember to always write the very first version of their keyboard/mouse controls in EVERY game using a Quake-like arbitrary binding system. It’s so easy. And from my experience most games developers are unaware what a major problem the lack of re-bindable controls is. E.g., I use graphics tablets, not mice, and the position of buttons makes RMB a pain in the arse to use repeatedly, fast. Most modern apps use RMB very occasionally, so you could argue that this fits the “standard” designs of hardware and software. Nothing wrong with changing that, but rebindable keys would solve ALL the problems instantaneously, at such a low effort…

It does work on linux, and very well at that. see the thread

for a jnlp webstart file.

And could we please get rid of that impression that lwjgl is windoze-only? Proper linux support was implemented long ago.

If anything, bash lwjgl for not being MacOSX yet. Or something.

Blahbalhbalhh – Linux support is there and apparently has been there for some time, but the documentation wasn’t changed to reflect this until about 12 hours ago. So I thought the same thing as you, but in the last 12 hours I’ve been having a fine time tinkering with LWJGL.
