Survivor - first alpha!

I think 3*blah asks wether they should be interested in your learning

so that he can say that I helped a future genius become the genius he is now, currently aged 17? 8)

But on a more serious note, making survivor as a reference point for all game developers ( well, some ) would be a great honour? I would think so, but then again, thats just me.

Kev has opensourced his gravity game, and I have learned much from that (thx kev btw, owe ya one).

[quote]my reason so that you should is three fold:

So that I can:

  1. Learn AI integration into game logic
  2. Learn Editor creation
  3. Learn how to integration BeanShell into game logic

Why don’t we just write you an entire book and give it to you for free? Or howabout a 3 year full time CompSci course?

Seriously, though, each of us already does a lot of “charity” work in the form of writing tutorials and doing things like JGF gratis for the benefit of others. OK so we wrote Survivor for other people, but in the sense of other people playing it - not in the sense of giving them lots of free code etc. Stuff like that you have to pay for, because people have to make a living.

I believe what Blah is trying to say is that we’re evidently in the process of attempting to make Survivor a commerical success and hence giving out the source at the moment doesn’t make sense.

It doesn’t of course negate the possibility of open sourcing it in the future. Just for right now it’d be a little tricky.

However, for at least the graphics and rendering layer theres nothing really spectacular that isn’t in one of the other peoples of source (Gravity Battle, Martian Madness, etc…) that I’ve released in the past. I glad someone finds these things useful, sometimes its hard to tell

Kev

oh fair enough, id be more than happy to buy it, count me as your first customer

I am still yet to checkout martian madness (great game btw) i can see some similarities between it and survivor.

3Blah, do you have to be so sarcastic?

DP

Oops, sarcasm not intended. I was (lazily) trying to illustrate the point by giving parallels. When I’m being sarcastic I use the tag ;D.

I don’t mind the request at all, and if someone has a convincing reason for us to open-source I’m all ears. But it does have to have some benefit to us :).

ok, if you open source it, you’l get my contributions

But, since you are trying to make some money out of it, then open sourcing is not an option, even if it means loosing my contribution

DP

Loosing the contribution of an upcoming genious might turn out as a mistake…

Alien Flux is open source…

Cas

Some time after the release.

Kev

90% of Alien Flux was open source before it was released though…

Kev’s server went down. I’ve updated the original post with a note to try the main website. The “play” page has a link to a mirror of the game that is served from grexengine.com and is still available.

So you don’t have to go back to page 1  here’s the link:
