Snowman Village!

I dislike the controls. Simple keyboard controls would be much better than this “mouse-gestures-approach” IMHO. I don’t have the feeling to actually control the ball.

Ahaha, I’m an idiot. I added the extra display code but forgot to remove the earlier exception throwing. :-[ New version up now which should hopefully fix things (should say Build: 471 in the output at the start).

I’ll have a look at some more feedback for the controls and movement. Sound is on the todo list, but also some info on the force and direction might make things better.

Wheee! It works! No sound though, see attached log file for exceptions.

Shame I’m crap at it though :frowning: I second the call for keyboard controls. Also, sometimes the collected decorations get hidden behind the buttons.

Couldn’t you just drag the screen with right-click?

New version up (build 475) - with an added force indicator to show you how much you’re pushing the snowball around by, and air controls (which makes it much easier to correct a bad jump). Also made the clicking and dragging more forgiving.

Force arrow isn’t perfect yet, but I’d like to know if this helps people having control difficulty before.

Probably, didn’t try that. :stuck_out_tongue:

New version out! This version (build 485) includes:

  • Sound effects!
  • More decorations to collect.
  • Decorations now rotatable for greater variety in snowman building.
  • Tweeked difficulty, including level generation and controls.
  • Proper webpage

Go here for the download links (or just use the ones on the first post).

Those air controls kick ass 8)

Theres a new version up, same links as before. I’ve added a rubbish area (top left of the village), items left in here will be removed when you leave the village. This stops it being cluttered up with all the tiny snowballs you don’t need.

By request, I’ve also added a cheat key - pressing space will dump some random snowballs and decorations into the rubbish pile, for those people who just want to build. ;D

Other minor changes include a few small bug fixes and more traditional camera scrolling behaviour.

Webstart
Windows zip

very nice ;D

…Incidentally, owners of fancy-pants graphics cards (GF FX and up) will now get a nice icey reflection effect in the village. Eye candy for all!

And I’m still looking for interesting snowmen pictures to put up on the site gallery, so if you’ve got any cool snowmen then post them up here.

I have a few problems with Java Web Start. I tried your game and it works here. Can you show me how you configured your JNLP file please??? :’(

Thanks for trying it. If you want to see the jnlp then you can just download it and open it in a text editor.
