Should I quit programming?

So, in conclusion, we can say that you have no choice in choosing whether you should quit programming or not, because as far as physics are concerned, you don’t have control over the electrons in your brain. Whatever you decide, it was not your decision.

Hurray for the illusion of free will. Oh, and then there’s the uncertaincy principle, which messes it all up, again.

Fine. Then we are the sum of our collective experiences, influences and how we perceive/rationalize them. And these are wholly unique to each person. Therefore, there are some that will exceed the masses when it comes to certain tasks, activities, etc. because they grew up in a collection of influences and circumstances that made them pre-disposed to one thing or another. This whole thing reminds me of the discussion around Michael Phelps during the Olympics. Doctors were commenting on his physical proportions and, while training and determination made him the driven athlete he is, his physical proportions gave him an advantage over other swimmers. Nothing he could control (size of hands, length of arms, etc.). “He was born to swim” was repeated over and over.

So, put another athlete in the same training and environment since birth, without the genetic advantages, and are they still equal? Who really knows. But, I f I were a betting man…

[quote]Believing otherwise would be like believe in life after death.
And I consider programer as scientists, and scientists do not believe in theology and/or esoteric.

Where do you get this from? Looks like you need to do some more reading. For example, just because there is the race to unify the cosmos under measurable or definable systems does not equal a lack of faith.

[quote]Also IQ is an outdated format…
I really believe that every average human can perform every “normal” task. And I consider programming normal, and not something you need more than average intelligence. You just have to think very logically… but thats the case for all field of science and can actually be trained.

Again, believe all you want. But, if you are approaching this as a scientist, your belief has no place within your assertion. PROVE it. Otherwise, it is nothing more than a position of belief. Quiet unscientific.

There is no spoon?

No, there is a fork though.

Anyway, why are we derailing this thread so much?!

Just wondering: CyanPrime, how old are you?

Personally, I’m just amazed that we’ve made it almost two full pages of heated off-topic discussion without Godwin’s Law proving itself yet again, this might be an Internet first! I’m starting to wonder whether that will happen before or after someone baits gouessej with a JOGL vs. LWJGL comment.

In any case, to bring things back to the original topic, regardless of our individual feelings on nature v. nurture (this debate will forever rage on as the “emacs or vi” of psychology, because the truth is that both suck equally :P), I think we can all agree that CyanPrime has shown enough progress that he will almost certainly become good if he’s got the patience to fight through it for a while.

Well said  And, I really would like him to continue the work on his platformer. He already has a working framework, good ideas about the environmentals, etc. Go!

wow, good read. I really love this forum. :-*

Woah that’s quite a lot of class. Is it the average size of a commercial project? Do you have to know the 16k class to work on the project or you can just work on a part because that really seems a lot.

same here!

Thanks everyone! I’ve decided to cut back on programming for a bit, but not to quit.

If you can see that JOGL is like talent and that LWJGL is like desire, I think the difference between the two becomes quite obvious. It’s like comparing apples to oranges or men to women for that matter. Granted, there are things like blenders to mix apples and orange and marriage to combine men and women (sometimes before / sometimes after). Apparently, someone out there found some sort of mysterious way to combine a multitude of more than talent and desire.

JOGL is the best.

Sorry, I’m too busy with debugging my implementation of the portal culling…

;D

Jpct software render is better ::slight_smile:

Excuses…
