I mainly hate ads because it makes everything hectic and disorganized.
On top of that most ads move and/or blink - its incredibly annoying.
Just go to a mediafire download without ad blocker - thats what I mean. Ads are seldom integrated nicely.
on jgo its alright, but the moving has to stop and it needs more variety… its just 3 puppygames games over and over again
Also, you know, the script doesnt seem to work quite right, because now that I think about it, I do see the jgo ads even with ad block enabled… I guess it only blocks some, depending on the source
shameless plug: titan attacks, with the little annoying thing moving left and right
Well, I don’t want this to become a thread to nag on Riven’s work / JGO’s website ads lol, so this thread could be considered closed I guess.
He’s solved the problem temporarily it sound like (Simple if statement, basically just disabled it :-X), doesn’t matter if it was from my asking or not , at least it’s gone.
I wish there were enough developers of games wantingto host their ads for free on JGO. As long as there’s a lack of that, the games of Puppygames will be in the majority.
Anyway, to wrap it all up, yeah, I did some nonsensical things, mainly for fun, realizing it was a bit annoying, but not realizing how incredibly annoying it would be. Further I assumed that adding an exception for java-gaming.org wouldn’t be much of a big deal, not taking into account corporate environments - I never had such locked down devices in my previous dayjobs.
Why (on earth) I did it:
This all started when I had bug-reports coming in from people that said the JGO layout was screwed up: huge empty spaces (750x750 px) were small banners should be positioned. When I traced it back to AdBlockPlus, I was mildly annoyed that its intrusive code had cost me yet a few hours of my time, so I decided to write some javascript to detect that ad blocker. After the detection was done, I wrote a few lines of dom/css manipulation to focus my frustration. This version was never meant to be permanent, it was more a proof of concept that the detection actually worked. It was stupid to test this code publicly, I admit that.
Once I figured out what triggered AdBlockPlus to ruin my layout, I quickly made some adjustments and the result is currently live. If it breaks something on your machine, or is otherwise undesirable, please unleash your terror in this horrible thread.
‘This horrible thread’ lol. :emo:
So what if they have some Images missing on their computer, that’s their issue.
If they don’t like it they can disable their ad blocker so they can see them, or go pout.
Better to have some ‘blank spaces’ here and there than to ‘feel’ like you’re having a website take over your web browser. :’(
Lol, no one knew this was a ‘Live Test’ to see if it worked or not lol.
By the way you kept replying I was lead to think that you we’re insinuating that we’d have to compensate on our end for this update.
If you didn’t want this ‘Horrible Thread’, think ahead next time and make a announcement that what you’re doing is a ‘Live test’…
Anyways, thanks for removing it Riven, no need to reply.
It’s scary how right you are. People don’t want to see ads…at all! As long as ads aren’t flashy, big, and intrusive (Youtube, I’m looking at you -___-), I don’t mind them. I have Adblock installed and have had this site and many others whitelisted for ages.
XD, You’re retarded mate.
I don’t post images to ‘indirectly’ insult members on JGO, nor to directly.
Is JGO not the right place for me?
I come here for help, and to show off WIP’s.
Seems like there’s a bunch of smart asses here who tend to aim at me.
If you don’t like the way I talk, there’s a ‘Back’ button on your browser, get more familiar with it when you want to post insults on a programming forum where a thread’s been considered answered / closed.
FYI: Picture has no relevance, I didn’t give anything / expect anything from Riven.
He programmed something that was out of the ordinary / unneeded, I didn’t like the way it interacted with my browser, I made a thread about it.
I only change the oil every 3,000 miles in ours now. It runs sweet-as without further tinkering Almost slightly relatedly Riven managed to get us a 25% speed boost with some algorithmical optimisations in the engine - very nice, and will even benefit the Android version a lot too.
Oil? Nobody uses that old crap anymore Cas. Everyone knows that real Java experts use fusion. Only downside is that it takes forever to implement, so eh… We don’t make any games. :emo:
