PlayStation 3 HDD to Ship With Linux

I agree in most points with zingbat.

IMHO an even greater threat would be if it is possible to write games with C# with Managed DirectX that run on the XBOX 360. Does anyone know about Microsoft’s plans in doing so ?

I don’t know much about performance comapering java and c#, but I am very interested in where you got these info?
I only know about this comparison, which probably fall under the microbenchmark category and therefore may not be serious. Furthermore the statement from the website: “The Java server VM is faster than the client VM, which was new to me, because I don’t have that much Java experience” isn’t a good argument for relying on the results.

For PS3’s creator, this isn’t a game

[quote]Cell is not like that. Application programs can no longer directly access the hardware; instead they will have to be written in high-level, object-oriented language. That was done for security reasons: If processors of high performance and wide bandwidth like the Cell were linked together without sufficient security, a worldwide system crash could occur with one attack.

This is an invitation to SUN, isn’t it ?

Yes and to the java development community as well. If the playstation 3 turns out to be a computer entertainment console as appose to a gaming console, then it will be no different than a PC, except it is used for entertainment and is much more powerful. It would be good for SUN to use their embedded technology knowledge for this.
