My first multiplayer internet fighting game(GTGE) applet and jar

I cant wait until we can try this out. Does it still sue the same fighting style. Or is it a completely different game fromt he beggining.

the fighting style has slightly changed but it doesnt work quite the way i want it to i cant figure out how other fighting games work i think i might have to add a few timers to stop you from pressing a million keys a second and the character responding as fast it dont look quite right but hey it sort of works…lol
i have uploaded my latest version for you all to have a look…its not fully finished i have yet to do the collections or integrate the attack and defence from the moves into the characters oh and the health doesnt do anything yet but i intend to decrease the health of your fighter after each mission or victim attack lol@victim ;D thats right suckers i am gonna own you all… seriously though you can only attack a victim if they are offline
as i havent integrated it yet so that the updating of cash is in sync.

i like the fact that you money goes up even when you dont play it as this is gonna help bigtime…well enough rabbiting check it out if you want
both the applet version and the jnlp version work great and i have managed to get the jar file size down to 569kb

the game creates a folder called resources in your user.home directory and in there it puts all the graphics you require.it only does this as it needs to once the graphics are downloaded from my server it wont get them again so the game will run faster each time.
let me know if you have any issues or problems and i will try to help as much as i can.

Ok its back up and running again going to need some feedback if thats ok with anyone that reads it i got questions…

First off the jnlp webstart version after clearing your java cache of any of my stuff when you first click on the little picture on the site or from the link in previous posts how long does it take to download and play the first screen(not the gtge splash the login create account screen) ?

how long does it take to get to the next screen once you have clicked on the login/create account buttons ?? by the way dont get it wrong or you have to restart…lol i will fix this soon.

this is my main concern once you get to the screen where you type in something it should be quicker and future plays will be even quicker i create a folder in(system.home) called resources this is where the graphics for the game will be stored.to ensure you get the most up to date versions you can always delete the folder before you next login.

after you have selected a server(theres only one for now) is moving from screen to screen quick enough as i download graphics on the fly as they are needed, only does this once. same when your selecting missions or learning the moves choosing a character or the collections.

i know the timers are out by 1 second couldnt be bothered to correct it.

the same questions apply to the applet although i found the applet works faster.

i know the actual fighting graphics are pants and are not aligned properly and theres variables printed on the screen in various places.
i would like to know mostly about the speed it downloads at and if anyone else gets a white screen. or crashes.
i may not be online when you manage to logon which you will all have to create new accounts as my server died a while back and i lost all my data off the database,but feel free to pick me as a victim to test out the cash side of it log off log back on and it should remember where you last left off and update your cash,by the way you dont have to do anything at all to earn cash in the game you get bonuses every 15mins plus income from any buildings you have.you need stamina to fight victims and you need energy plus the move for the missions.when you fight the missions you risk loosing what you intend to gain ;D telling me how crap it is is not required only if it works reasonably fast and if you encounter any major problems…cheers see you around im off to sleep.

was kinda fun beating on your AI. dang only ~20 seconds every time… may want to make that harder…

EDIT: you need ot have the cost of stuff theere. Cause I keep getting “not enough cash” but for some stuff it doesnt say the cost.

and how do you get to do a mission. do ou have to 100% master a move? cause that is a bit too much.

EDIT2: nvm, I got missions working. they are kinda easy though.

hey thanks for testing it but it still has a long way to go it all has to be leveled up cash amounts strength and speed of ai,
i am just trying to get the mechanics working i know its a little easy i kept being beaten. i was thinking of adding strength for the moves mastery, start of with a weak punch attack strength of 1 and when you have mastered it make your punch strength 5 not to mention bonus cash and collections thrown in at random for you to collect for doing the missions all the missions are currently set to 1% for each completion im going to change it so you master them quicker to start with gradually getting less.
most importantly did it crash what version did you play ? was it quick enough to download the graphics data?
I will be tinkering with it laters so it may not load at all next time you log on but your cash bonuses will be there next time you log on.

well. It seemed like a smooth game. Althouhg In the profile page, I never did find out how much that stuff cost.

it seemed very polished… until I got into a fight that is ;). That is the only place that I find unproffesional.

Sorry folks server keep going off as i keep changing things,the latest versions online now sorry forgot to fix the layout of the h2h data but it does report who won and lost correctly just the data display is the wrong way round.
ive added more variables to the screens and i have added the extra characters so theres only 3 to choose from at the moment and when a character is downloaded you fight with that character but also your oponent is the same character i cant do anything about that for now as i need more characters to add as default characters.
eventually when you fight against someone else you will fight the character they have chosen the file sizes are not that big, ill have to make a kind of holding screen before the fight starts while it downloads the extra character data before it throws you into the fight screen.
i still havent changed the hit points so the fights are over quicker.
i still need to check for old files and update with new ones but not started that yet. so i recomend clearing your java cache temp files and delete the resource folder just incase you have old files.
oh and now it dont cost any money for missions and you wont loose any should you loose (thats doubtful) but you still need energy.
feeling quite tired so i may not work on it for a bit and have a crack at making some more characters,when ive added more characters then i will have a go at making more changes to the actual program and finally sorting out the attack defence and collections stuff.

webserver or gameserver? my servers been on for ages so it should be working fine it maybe because your using an old client??
I lost all the database stuff a few months back so if your trying to login with an old username it wont work sorry,youll have to create a new name.

UPDATE…i had lost my connection to the internet probably why it was playing up.
i have made it now so it checks if you have old graphics and soundfx and updates them automatically instead of keep deleting the resource folder.

Hey i have found out what the problem is and its BAD . ;D lmao.
ok its not that funny really when you build yourself a program that performs a denial of service attack on your self, so much for trying to be clever looks like i will have to go back to doing things the old way with sockets rather than http connections, i suppose its ok if your not trying to do as many as i was a second.
fear not i now have a better understanding than when i first designed my network so hopefully i will get it fixed and it will be better than before.
i am going to remove some old methods and replace them with better designed ones. Looks like i will need to stock up on coffee see you when its finished.
im going to have to remove the page so you wont play it. sorry cant have my network down while im testing it.

Ok i think i have kind of fixed it .dont know yet time, will tell the latest version is uploaded with all the fixes.

tried clicking the login button and it froze

you really need a mouse over effect and a mouse down effect, or atleast a mouse down effect

or else you can never tell if you clicked or the program froze before or what

a button should give a response

ok i will work on that today was thinking of that my self i will see what i can come up with.
The games changed loads since you last created an account so youll have to create a new one as i have changed some of the data structures to add more features sorry.
I am going to wipe your details from the server or you wont be able to login or create an account till the old files are gone.

Ok i print a message to the screen when you press left mouse button but problem is when you press the mouse button it normally changes screen to the next screen indicating that you pressed it.so you dont get to see it,but its there anyway just incase.

The only reason it should freeze is if the server is turned off, Its been off and on hundreds of times the last few days as i created a denial of service attack by accident, this could be why it froze on you. I have put a mouse over affect in simple white line rectangle around the button.
Any messages from the server will be printed on the screen.
Normally timed out will show up after 30 seconds after you have clicked the button.
To be honest there are no buttons i just use mouse co-ordinates
