Lights and ASE importing

Hi all. I’m Watto. I’m new to this community. I’m working on a project for my University using Xith3D. I model this University (of Almería, Spain) with Blender and I export it like an ASE file. When I import it, I can see the model, but I can’t use lights, so my model seems mate, without shadows. Every face looks with the same ilumination.

Does anybody know anything about it? Can you help me? pleeeeaseee :stuck_out_tongue:

Cheers, Watto

sounds like your seeing just ambient light.

Xith is different than say JAVA3D because only the light containing branchgroup and children branchgroups are illuminated by a light. If the export puts the light in an unexpected place they may not be seen.

Is the ASE exporter exporting lights ? I’m not sure.

I don’t think so.
I think the problem is, that xith doesn’t load materials from ASE, so in xith you’ll need to add materials to your ase objects, and then place lightsources.

Well. First of all, thanx for the answers. When I import from ASE, it imports textures, but i’m not sure if it imports material (ambient, diffuse and so on). The problem then is how I access theese objects (Shape3D) to add a new appearance? I’m not sure i’m saying. I don’t know if it is correct.

Regards, Watto.

If it loads textures it also loads materials of some sort - if you want to change them its finetuning of some sort and you can do it later, because I don’t think it’ll changes the current behavior. If I were you I’d try to add a new directional light to your root node. Set any direction for the light and you should see a difference!

Had a similar problem once, and the only thing to do was to add materials my self. I am of cause not sure if it has changed since.
