Girls play games too,LoL.
Thanks for the breakdown Kev. Maybe by the time I try it out you’ll have it nice and stable!
You’re right, SingSong requires some special APIs (mic, etc), but I haven’t bothered wrapping them. I’m not actually targeting SingSong with my library (Scorpion! :D) – I’m so freaking sick of karaoke.
XMLVM looks very promising. But i’ve a problem with it’s license. When you develop an app and want to sale it in the App-Store you have to release all your source code, cause GPL (viral). Everybody could “steal” your code and write a clone and sell it for half the price. Is there any hope that they alter the license?
You’d have to talk to them about that. I’ve arranged a license outside of that, and I think that option would be open to everyone - I guess it doesn’t hurt that I’ve contributed a bunch of code now.
However, you could also argue that the only code of XMLVM’s that you distribute is the objc compatibility library, and hence the only code you’d have to make public is anything bound to that - which would be the generated objc from your game. In all honesty, you’re welcome to that It’d be remarkbly unlikely anyone would be able to do anything with it, let alone distribute it (since Apple would stop them as it’d be a duplicate game).
GPL doesn’t stop you going commercial, it just means you have to release your source, in the circumstance thats not such a BIG DEAL ™.
Kev
On the xmlvm website under the contribute exception they say they will grant a different license for commercial use for people who contribute
So why did you go for a commercial license if its not such a big deal :persecutioncomplex:
Heh!
First the commercial license cost me nothing and saved me the job of releasing source.
Second at that time the intention of the XMLVM team wasn’t so clearly defined. Icve got to know them now and found them very reasonable.
Kev
Hi Kev,
Now that your dual release has lived for a while out there any news on the distribution of sales/ donwloads on iphone vs android? Still pondering on releasing Air Attack on the iphone using XMLVM like you did. But I fear it won’t be as easy as it seems…
