I didn’t “forget” to feckin’ renew it, my useless shitbag hosting company (who host the machine and also the DNS names) just decided to yank it 1 year after I registered it without warning, without renewing automatically for me (as I would expect them to do) and without even saying sorry. I may be moving to some other useful service provider as a result of this total ineptitude.
As I write, it’s still not fixed.

Who are they? It would be nice to add another to my blacklist of hosting companies to avoid (no.1 at the moment: Hostway.com, whose total incompetence got OUR domain on the spam blacklists, because of THEIR screwup of their 100% managed server; in 3 months they were too lazy/stupid/incompetent to fix it, so we had to change provider and get a new IP address 
).
1-and-1 are quite good given how cheap they are. Not perfect (twice in 1.5 years (spread across 4 servers) I’ve seen them crash a server completely (no ping, even) and force sites off the net for up to 3 days with no explanation and no apology; but…that could be something as innocent as an urgent upgrade, and it IS cheap)
I’m afraid I’m disappointed enough with theplanet.com to not recommend them now to anyone. They have failed me in a spectacular way. Luckily I don’t do $1000s/day of business or I’d be suing their asses right now.
