ECTS 2004 - Earls Court London

Turds. You going to get a mobile phone in the next 24 hours?

Cas

We went today and got a chance to meet the great guys from crystal squid. I would just like to say a big thanks to Dom and Simon for their words of encouragement. These guys know the games industry and were a true pleasure to talk to, I hope it goes well for you guys and may our paths cross again. Pop in and say hi to AMD, they take the time to address performance issues on the latest platforms … FX51 and the dual (impressive) opteron. Really worth a visit.

Are they here now? Where can I find them? (Right now I’m in the AMD developers lounge)

Cas

Anyone looking for me…

I’m int he AMD lounge now…wearing all black, with a black rucksack and an SF t-shirt.

I’ll be here for the next half an hour or so

Bah - we were there yesterday, but back in Cardiff today :frowning: Would have been good to meet at last

ECTS was totally cool!!!

We went on the Thursday and met the guys from Crystal Squid at the AMD lounge, it was nice to finally put faces to some of the names.

Also had a chance to play Doom 3 on some high end machine… I will simple say WOOOOOOWWWWEEEEEE!!!

The guys from AMD were totally cool, I got a chance to see ZTron running on an AMD 64 3800, AMD 64 FX-51 and a Dual Opteron system running Windows XP 64-Bit.

Suffice to say that they all ran like lightining but man oh man did the FX amaze me!!! Ouch I had to engage both anti-aliasing and Bilinear filtering to get the FX up to 100% cpu usage… and that was because my bilinear filtering algo is somewhat crappy.

Windows XP 64 Bit running on the Opterons was the smoothest I have ever experienced any OS… and although it didn’t have a VM the AMD guys went out of there way to get things up and running… they are the most professional, all round cool dudes I have ever met!!! These guys weren’t just the usual hired help… they really knew there stuff and showed genuine interest in seeing how AMD hardware performs on different applications.

Anyway, I hope we get to meet more javagaming ppl next year… although I think the dual-core AMD processors make their debut around the same time as ECTS next year… so I don’t know if I will be able to:

  1. Contain my drool
  2. Peel myself away from the AMD lounge
  3. Correctly formulate sentences
  4. Stop hugging the AMD case (as done this year)

I’m jealous! I’m a college kid stuck in the US. No fair  Maybe sometime in the future I’ll take a trip over to Europe around the time one of these goes on and I can meet up with some of you guys too!
