If you get hit and go into it you lose your charge, where as you keep it if you go manual.
Aha, that could work. You could also make it so that while doing it manually you can’t shoot at all, but you can do it as long as you want. So you could survive for hours but never get a single point. Or something like that.

I have read your source code. Why are almost all members public or package protected? Why is there no package? It is quite clean (cleaner than my source code lol), you skip enough lines, it is readable but there are not enough comments on my view and there is no Java documentation even for public methods. There are not enough constants, some values are hard-coded inside the methods, they should be clearly defined as static members or whatever you like. I’m sorry, I’m too busy to help you to create a better Drive Buster experience but if I find a bug, I will report it. Keep up the good work.

One thing that seemed a bit odd is the way enemies stopped dead in their tracks when they died. It might have a better feel if they kept on moving. That along with more outrageous explosions would make for some fun.
It’s pretty cool, but there are some weird things - like why do the bullets not come out of the middle of the ship? They come out from strange positions.
It’d be nice if you changed the cursor to something like a cross hair. Maybe it would change colour when the gun is ready to fire again.
If the reload was quicker and you could just hold the mouse down it would be much more fun. repetitively clicking is a little annoying.
Sound effects are great, nice job 8)
