I, for one, just can’t visit JavaOne, due to time constraints, so I’m not really making an effort to make a fool of myself (any further).

Yes, the video would be seen by the public on the channelsun.sun.com site. The $1500 is to help you with the airfare and hotel. And don’t worry about looking foolish, if that is your concern. That’s what the internet is for!
Held in the U.S. is the no-brainer as far as I’m concerned. When you move it to a country which doesn’t treat all visitors as suspected terrorists then I might attend.

I can see that being a problem, but prices have being going down lately - be sure to check that.

You have that completely backwards. The only way you are able to put yourself out there in that manner is if you are confident. I speak in front of hundreds and thousands of people at a time, all over the world, so I really don’t suffer from a lack of self-esteem. As you get older, you realize that you can’t take life too seriously, you need to have fun, and your opinion of yourself matters more than other’s opinions of you. Doubly true of the opinions lobbed from the internet.
As for the rapping, of course it’s bad. Intentionally so. Growing up in Queens NY during the 1970’s and early 80’s, I was in the middle of the rap/hip hop movement. Huge collection of vinyl. But, no worries, I will not try to start my rap career at this point in my life
