2015 Game Development Goals

Welcome to 2015 boys! Let the journey begin!

I’d post something but I know I wouldn’t get it done.

Not with that attitude you won’t.

I would like to start with my plans I wanted to do in 2014, I posted them here

I had made a lot of plans, but I only managed to achieve some of them, I managed to participate in Ludum Dare, and I also made by game engine, SilenceEngine. I tried to understand Compiler Design, but despite of having it as a subject, I only managed myself to pass the examination. For the next thing, FontPacker, I managed to get it running on Linux, but not on OS X, because Mono on OS X is very very limited in GUI toolkits, I was lazy to rewrite using MonoMac.

I did some things that are not on my plan though, I started to use LWJGL3 first for an engine, before anyone switched it. And now, I’m writing my LWJGL Tutorials in LWJGL 3 after one year after I planned to do. One more good achievement was that I understood how should I reply to others, after all English isn’t my native language, I think I should still keep learning English, I sometimes still had to use Dictionary when talking to some people here.

So, yeah, I know past is past, I should move on into 2015, in fact, 2015 already arrived. Here is my new list of things I think I will be doing in 2015.

 • Make more games with SilenceEngine
 • Follow TheBennyBox’s 3D Physics Engine series completely
 • Learn more modern OpenGL (4+)
 • Participate in Ludum Dare again (it’s on April 17th)
 • Participare in TAFSJ again
 • Get more cool ideas

2014 has given me both good, and bad, and the same will be the case of everyone, let’s forget the bad, remember the good, and be happy and successful always… So guys, what are your goals?

I’ve read that openCL computation kernels are programmed in C99. From wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenCL#OpenCL_C_language
The programming language used to write computation kernels is called OpenCL C and is based on C99
As are openGL shaders. From wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenGL_Shading_Language
OpenGL Shading Language (abbreviated: GLSL or GLslang), is a high-level shading language based on the syntax of the C programming language.

2014 has been a good and bad year for me, like every other year!

What I did in 2014

 • I got passed the programming learning “wall”
 • I released a Space Invaders clone that is polished, I am happy with it (greatly)
 • I joined JumpButton Studio and met some of the most interesting people
 • Got accepted onto first year HND Computer Games Development at Edinburgh College
 • Learned C# in like a week (mostly syntax differences and some extra nice stuff, lamdas)
 • I developed and released Viking Dodge under JBS (all credits in thread)
 • I got reunited with my cousin whom I was great friends with 10 year ago, we are now designing a game together (he is a C/C++/Java/Haskell/Python programmer)
 • Acquired myself a new mountain bike in an attempt to get “back in the game” after an injury last year that has left be a terrified of jumps

What I plan to do in 2015

 • Patch and update Viking Dodge with fixes/features over the course of the year
 • Plan and develop JBS’ next release
 • Visit France and got biking in the Alps
 • Continue on to second year of my HND course
 • Get a better job and tell my boss to stuff it
 • Hopefully plan the wedding with the other half and get a date sorted (this is actually a proper work load btw…)
 • Buy a damn house
 • Buy a damn motorbike
 • Brew more beer :stuck_out_tongue:

Huhh,

For me 2014 was a black-hole in term of games developpement (2013 was a good year).
My professionnal work was too immersive and i let down all personnal projects.
But i played in 2014 to “X-Com Enemy Within” and found it as a really good game and loved it !! it’s such game that i’m jalous to not made it even if i know i’m not able to do…

So, since 1 month, i restarted old projects, review theses and started to unify 3 of them inside a single one.
I would achieve in 2015:

 • Finished 2 games started in 2013 (one is playable but i want to polish it a bit)
 • Learn most of things about OpenGL (some stuff are always a mystery for me… and i want to work on theses aspects)
 • Finish my ui framework

But i hope i will be able to get some times for personnal projects over the complete 2015 year.

Happy new Year to everybody !!!
Séb.

What I did in 2014:

 • I have learned a lot of Java language.
 • I created my own Game engine
 • Worked on Ninjas vs Zombie Pirates for my school project
 • Learned a lot about Unity and C#
 • Started my new Project in Unity “Ninjas vs Zombie Pirates”

What I hope to do in 2015:

 • Release a playable version of Ninjas vs Zombie Pirates
 • If people start to like it maybe i put it on Kickstarter or Steam Greenlight
 • After finish school i would like to get a good job related to programming

What I did in 2014:

Exactly one year ago today, I decided to dust off my idea of creating a polyrhythmic (two or more different rhythms played simultaneously) metronome application and start working on it again. I’ve had the idea for about 4 years but kept running into problems that I couldn’t get past, thus never made any kind of serious progress with it. After picking it up again, I had hit another wall with it…but then…I found this forum!!! And thanks to the help of the amazing members here I was able to not just move forward on my project, but get the core functionality working better than I could have ever dreamed possible. It’s still a work in progress, but it is coming along extremely well. I also made the switch over from Java SE to using LibGDX (based on the recommendation of several forum members here) which has been a challenge all on its own.

Finding this forum was the best part of 2014 as I probably would have stopped working on my project yet again and put it back on the shelf. I have learned so much in just the 6 months or so that I’ve been here, it’s crazy.

What I plan to do in 2015

Release my metronome! I’m not going to say “finish” as I think I will keep adding more features to it for as long as I can. And of course, I plan to spend lots more time here!

To stop using Java2D (EDIT) for game development (Thanks, CopyableCougar4).

Fixed that for you :point:

Thanks

No problem  Java2D still has its purposes, just not for games

My plan is to get Battledroid out there for people to play. Might be a while.

Cas

I endorse this product and/or post.

I love the style of those games~

I’ve decided I actually may get some things done this year. Disregard the previous post.
